Joaquin Phoenix is an Academy® and BAFTA Award winning actor.

Most recently, Phoenix starred in A24’s Beau is Afraid. The film was directed by Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar) and released in theaters in New York and Los Angeles on April 14th and wide across the country on April 21st. The film follows Beau (Phoenix) after the sudden death of his mother and the challenges that ensue. The supporting ensemble cast includes Nathan Lane, Patti LuPone, Parker Posey, to name a few.

Phoenix recently wrapped production on Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel to 2019’s Joker. Joker: Folie à Deux, directed by Todd Phillips, co-produced by Phillips and Bradley Cooper, and distributed by Warner Bros. The film is set to release on October 4, 2024, and also stars Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn.

Next, Phoenix will begin filming Pawel Pawlikowski’s next feature film The Island (tentative title) alongside Rooney Mara. The Island is based on a true story of an American couple who embark on a quest to build a secluded paradise on a deserted island and live off the land. When a European countess finds out about their plans, she arrives with a plan to take over the island and build a luxury hotel, which becomes the catalyst for betrayal, infidelity, and eventually, murder. Apocalypso Pictures and Brightstar are producers on the project with Wildside, Fremantle and Vision also on board.

In 2020, Joaquin Phoenix won an Academy Award®, BAFTA Award, SAG Award, and Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Joker. The film was nominated for an Academy Award® and BAFTA Award for Best Film.

In 2021, he stared in C’mon C’mon as Johnny. The film was written and directed by Mike Mills and premiered at Telluride Film Festival to rave reviews.

In 2018, Phoenix starred in Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot. The screenplay by Gus Van Sant is based on the memoir by John Callahan. The story follows true events of John (Phoenix) who becomes paralyzed after an accident due to his addiction and later finds his life’s passion. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and also stars Rooney Mara, Jonah Hill, and Jack Black.

Phoenix can also be seen in You Were Never Really Here, which premiered at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. Phoenix won the Cannes Best Actor Award and the film won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Screenplay. The film was written and directed by Lynne Ramsay and was based on the 2013 novella of the same name by Jonathan Ames.

In 2013, Joaquin Phoenix played the lead role in Her for Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures. The film was written, directed, and co-produced by Spike Jonze. In the film, Theodore Twombly (Phoenix) develops a romantic relationship with Samantha (Scarlett Johansson), an artificial intelligent robot with a female voice. The film also features Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde, and Chris Pratt. The film won an Academy Award® and Golden Globe for Original Screenplay.
