Zen Movie is a production and distribution company, leader in the promotion of short films in the world, directed by Virginia Gherardini and founded together with Giulio Mastromauro, voting member of the EFA -European Film Academy and winner of the David di Donatello Award.

Over the years, Zen Movie’s activity has led to the launch of directors such as Teemu Nikki, Jasmine Trinca, Dania Bdeir, Ciro D’Emilio, Ali Asgari, Farnoosh Samadi, Valerio Vestoso, Sameh Alaa, Edoardo Natoli, Nicola Sorcinelli, Alessandro Grande, Arev Manoukian.

Among the short films produced: “Inverno (Timo’s winter)” by Giulio Mastromauro (Italy), winner of the David di Donatello Award 2020, nominated for the Nastri d’Argento 2021 and eligible for the Oscar 2021. “My Name is Aseman” by Ali Asgari and Gianluca Mangiasciutti, in competition at TIFF Tirana 2023 and presented at Alice nella città 2023.

Among the short films distributed: “Being My Mom” by Jasmine Trinca, in competition at the Venice Film Festival and winner of the Nastro d’Argento 2021. “I am afraid to forget your face” by Sameh Alaa (Egypt, France, Belgium, Qatar), winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival 2020 and eligible for the 2021 Oscar. “Solitaire” by Edoardo Natoli, presented at the Giornate degli Autori and winner of the Nastro d’Argento 2021. “All these creatures” by Charles Williams (Australia), winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival 2018 and at the AACTA – Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts. “Lost & Found” by Andrew Goldsmith and Bradley Slabe (Australia), in competition at Berlinale 68 and shortlisted at the Academy Awards2019. “Warsha” by Dania Bdeir (Lebanon, France), awarded at the Sundance Film Festival shortlisted at the Academy Awards 2022. “Exam” by Sonia K Hadad (Iran), in competition at the TIFF Toronto Int. Film Festival and eligible for the Oscar 2021. “Bismillah” by Alessandro Grande (Italy), winner of the David di Donatello 2018 and awarded at the Giffoni Film Festival. “Moby Dick” by Nicola Sorcinelli (Italy) with Kasia Smutniak, winner of the Nastro d’Argento 2017. “Inanimate” by Lucia Bulgheroni (UK), winner of the Nastro d’Argento 2019, awarded at the Cannes Film Festival 2018 and at the BAFTA Student Awards 2018. “Le Mosche (The Flies)” by Edgardo Pistone, awarded for Best Director at the Venice Int. Film Critics’ Week 2020.

“Bangarang” is the first feature-length documentary produced by Zen Movie, directed by Giulio Mastromauro.
