SYNOPSIS
On July 9th, 2021 the GKN Driveline workers of Florence, an automotive company, find out that their factory in Campi Bisenzio has been closed, without any warning or economic recession, just delocalisation for speculative purposes.
The reaction of the Council of workers at the factory level is immediate. The workers occupy the building, they supervise to ensure its security and initiate a mobilization which involves the whole area and ends up joining other protests in the country. “We rise!”, the Florentine partisan motto, is their slogan.
To avoid top-down political and financial calculations, the GKN workers community has to face endless obstacles, scams and accidents. The more they go forward, and the more the struggle turns out to be not only an instrument for collective defense, but also a different way of seeing life, where taking care of others represents the first step in the care of oneself.
